Tips on Writing a Medical Assistant Resume

  1. Choose the right format:
There are two types of resume formats: chronological and functional. A chronological resume lists your work experience in reverse-chronological order while a functional resume highlights your skills and achievements related to the job. You can choose the format that works best for you.
  2. Customize your summary:
Your summary should be tailored to the specific job you’re applying for. Use keywords from the job description and highlight your top skills. Keep it brief and to the point.
  3. Include relevant work experience:
In the work experience section list your previous research positions and any relevant internships or volunteer work. Be sure to focus on the tasks and accomplishments that support your skills and qualifications for the job you’re applying for. Use strong action verbs to describe your contributions to the projects you worked on and quantify your achievements whenever possible.
  4. Showcase your education:
List your education including the name of the institution location degree earned and graduation date. If you have relevant certifications or licenses include them as well.
  5. Highlight your skills:
Medical assistants require a variety of skills including administrative technical and interpersonal. List your strongest skills related to the job requirements.
  6. Include any relevant volunteer experience:
If you have volunteered in a healthcare setting include it on your resume. This shows that you have relevant experience and are committed to the field.
  7. Proofread for errors:
Make sure your resume is free of spelling and grammatical errors. Ask a friend or family member to review it for you before submitting.
